Welcome!
This is the tumblog of Floria Chi.
It serves the purpose of entertaining and informing the Ritalin-deprived about me via short posts of photos, videos, soundbites, quotes, links, as well as the occasional epiphany jotted down in a brief text entry.
About Me… as of April 2008.
I’m currently living in San Francisco and getting physically, mentally, and emotionally prepared for medical school at Columbia in the Fall.
I spend most of my time creating and developing a non-profit called EducateOne. Inspired by a trip to Tanzania last summer, EducateOne seeks to provide scholarships for needy students in countries of poverty.
In my free time, I also volunteer for the San Francisco Frozen Film Festival doing Graphics and PR.
I was born in Massachusetts. I grew up in West San Jose (but I like to just call it Cupertino… You can tell a lot about a San Jose-ian by whether they prefer to call it “San Ho” or …Cupertino.) I obtained a B.S. in Neuroscience at UCLA in 2007.
I enjoy cooking, science, and exploring the city. Other things that I like but am probably not proficient in enough to list here include: basketball, surfing, quantum physics, tennis, piano, web 2.0, watercolor/sketching, film editing, design (print and basic web), Spanish, Italian, Swahili, and Japanese.
Résumé, abridged.
With the help of several wonderful supporters, I fundraise for Hellen, Juliana, and Sunday to go to school, maintaining a website that showcases student videos and profiles (Adobe CS3, Final Cut Pro).
I was an InDesign and Facebook junkie for the San Francisco Frozen Film Festival.
I measured EEG brainwaves, perfecting my brain conductance gelling technique, at a neuromarketing company called NeuroFocus in Berkeley.
I’ve taught HIV/AIDS Prevention in local villages in Tanzania.
I tutored chemistry to UCLA students.
I’ve used MRI slices of ADHD and control brains for 3-D neuroimaging and analysis of limbic structures.
I’ve represented homeless clients in their pursuit of welfare.
I used ordinary differential equations to model ion channels, conductance, and neuron excitability on the computer program, Berkeley Madonna.
I’ve practiced meditation with monks and nuns at Deer Park Monastery.
I had my acting debut as the Virgin Mary when I studied in Siena, Italy.
I’ve made excellent cappucino’s and vanilla latte’s.
Typing 100 wpm; running 6.3 mph; I’m good at Word; and fair attempts at humor.
